Once again Riccall TC are taking part n the Great British Tennis Weekend organised by the LTA. We will be opening our courts on Saturday 24th June from 1pm with the opportunity for everyone, young and not so young, to get on court and take part.
There will be junior nets set up with an LTA Level 3 qualified coach on hand to offer coaching advice and run some short coaching sessions.
The other courts will be available for anyone to take part in some short games of tennis with friends or to join in with others. If this is as popular as last year we will be taking bookings for 20 minute slots to allow everyone to have a go.
The speed gun will also be deployed to allow everyone a chance to test the speed of their serve, with a prize for the fastest serve in each category.
All equipment will be provided, although your are welcome to bring your own racquet.
We are opening our courts to all from 1pm on Sunday 23rd April. This is to introduce anyone who is interested to a fast growing, and ever more accessible sport. We will have a number of members available on the day to answer questions, offer advice and tips, and join in any games. All equipment will be provided, and we plan to have a BBQ and refreshments available.
*** Well the Valentines Ball was a roaring success. With more than 120 guests the night was buzzing from the start. The Cover Lovers were fantastic, playing for more than 2 hours, keeping the dance floor full with their broad range of well know hits. With ticket sales, auctions, a raffle and other games the event raised a more than £2600. the Tennnis Club's share of this, 50%, will go into the fund for the new Club House. Following the success of this years event keep an eye out for news of a similar event in 2018 ***
This joint venture with blood cancer charity DKMS, is set to be THE event for 2017. Put the date in your diary now and contact John Lintott on 07939 006835 for tickets before you miss out. For just £25 per person there is a live band, The Cover Lovers, and food, what more could you ask.
On Saturday 25th June we opened up the courts for free as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend. This was a chance for all those wanting to have a go at tennis for the first time, or to check if their backhand was as like Roger Federer's as they honestly believed it was.
The weather was kind and the courts were full from the moment the gates opened. Children and adults alike benefited from the free coaching on offer and at times there was a queue of people eagerly awaiting their turn.
Mark Hamilton, the clubs coach, had a number of mini tennis courts set up with kids from as young as 4 picking up a racquet to test their skills. On the full size courts older children and adults were able to take part in short games. Mark, with the help of some of the clubs members, were on hand across all the courts providing free coaching, advice and tips to help with everyones game.
If you missed the event and would like to get on court the club runs a number of coaching sessions for children and adults. Details are on the coaching page or you can contact Andrew Dunning on 07740 710760 or John Lintott on 07939 006835.
